Blogger Highlight: Sugar Spice and Sparkle
Hello! We are starting a new monthly segment here on the blog that showcases a different blogger each month! This is a great way to find new bloggers and learn new tricks to stay on top of your blogging game. I'm excited to introduce our first blogger, Kate, of Sugar Spice and Sparkle! Kate and I ran across each other on Instagram and I was instantly smitten with her fun, colorful feed and even more so with her outfits and excellent writing style. Did you also know she runs a killer Etsy shop too? Read more below about Kate of Sugar Spice and Sparkle! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi! My name is Katie and my blog is Sugar Spice and Sparkle. I just graduated from college with my engineering degree and started a full time job. I started my Etsy shop, Sugar Spice Sparkle, in college and decided to start a blog shortly after. I love connecting with so many other girls just like me through social media and blogging. Sugar Spice and Sparkle is my nightly creative outlet after long, technical days in the office. I’m excited to see where blogging will take me over the years.
How did you first get involved with blogging?
I originally started as a craft blogger, doing DIY tutorials. After a while I got tired of just doing tutorials and wanted to create a blog where I could write about any topic. I enjoy writing about fashion so that is mostly what I blog about but other topics get thrown in occasionally.
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Time. Even though blogging is what I love to do, after a full day of work I often just want to sit on the couch! But whenever I motivate myself to get to work I always have fun editing pictures and writing.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say Casual, Classic. I love the “preppy” style: Oxfords, Jack Rogers, Lilly Pulitzer, but most days you’ll find me in shorts and a tank top. I like to be comfortable but still look put together.
How do you keep coming up with content for your blog?
I like blogging about fashion because every outfit could potentially be a new post. I think life in general provides a good amount of content to share. Being active in the blogging community also helps because you find out about link parties, collabs (like this one!), and such which are all great content to post about!
What are your favorite upcoming trends for Fall/Winter?
I am definitely a summer girl. When the winter starts to roll around I am not happy at all! But the one thing that makes it better is the clothing. I looooove scarves and boots especially. Cozy sweaters and puffer vests are pretty awesome too.
Woah this is a hard question! I don’t know if this counts but I am going to say my Kendra Scott druzy necklace. I wear that thing all the time, it just goes with everything!
If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?
Find a general niche for your blog to be about (mine is just ‘lifestyle’) and make sure you’re fully committed. If you want your blog to be successful you have to post consistently or you will never build a following. I could do a whole post on how to start a blog… hey there’s an idea! See, inspiration is everywhere J
What do you think is the best strategy to get more traffic to your blog?
Joining blogging communities. Either create a network through Instagram, join groups on twitter, join link parties. All of these will not only bring traffic, but they’ll bring in a relevant audience.
What do you do in your spare time?
Haha, that’s a good one! Spare time – lol! Blogging is what I do in my spare time along with my Etsy shop I guess, although I consider both of those part-time jobs and not spare time.
Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?
I would love to have built a huge following so that I can connect with girls like me and make new friends. I would also love to work with some of my favorite companies, I have had a few opportunities so far and it is so amazing. I feel so blessed to be able to blog and meet amazing people and work with the best companies!
Tell me about your proudest achievement?
Graduating college and getting my dream job. I consider these a joint achievement, I worked my butt off in school my entire life so to kind of close that chapter feels pretty amazing. And getting my dream job as a result of all that hard work made it all worth it!
Who was your first style icon?
Not sure about my first but my current is Kate Middleton.
Bloomingdale’s is one of my favorites. I love to buy Lilly Pulitzer from second-hand apps too, I love a good deal!
If you could splurge on one item, what would it be and why?
I have been wanting a pair of Tory Burch sandals forever so I will pick that (although there are so many things!).
Where do you find inspiration for your blog posts?
In my closet! I love putting together new outfits! I also find inspiration by looking at fashion magazines and following other fashion blogs.
I never like my outfits to be too “busy”. I’m not really a fan of pattern mixing although there are a handful of people who can work it! I like to have one focus in an outfit, be it the top, shoes, or even the jewelry.
Thank you so much Kate for all your words of wisdom today! I can definitely use some of these to help out Paper Meets Pearl! Can you believe that she's an engineer and finds the time to run an Etsy shop and blog? Talk about a boss lady (my favorite kind of ladies)!
