Charlotte Guide: Tavolo
Y'all I couldn't begin to explain how happy it made my heart when we ate at the Italian eatery in Charlotte. Like any good girlfriend that dates an Italian (I'm looking at you P), my heart sings when I'm around some seriously good Italian food. I've always been a huge pasta lover, because who isn't, but now that I'm three years deep into an Italian family, I've come to truly enjoy what Italian food is all about and Tavolo nails it!
Tavolo is a relatively new Italian eatery that just came on the Charlotte food scene about a year ago. This family style restaurant brings the best flavors of Italian flavor to life in its dishes and my goodness, they are impressive!
Walk inside this deceivingly large restaurant and you'll be welcomed by the extraordinary staff that work there. If you take their grand staircase upstairs, you'll walk into their private dining space where we spent the majority of our time. It's open air style is perfect for those looking to host large parties like an engagement, birthday, or retirement party. It even comes with its own bar upstairs which makes an ideal space to gather with loved ones.
Don't let the black interior fool you, there is amble natural light and the white walls help keep this expansive space looking cozy and spacious all at once.
I can't even begin to explain how amazing the food was at Tavolo! The portions were huge, which is perfect since their whole premise is to share with family and friends. Each dish that was brought out to the table was impressive and smelled amazing!
We began the meal with traditional starters of calamari alla diavolo and carpaccio di manzo and they were divine! I love calamari and this was cooked to perfection and was highly addictive! I simply could not stop eating it that evening.
Now you cannot go to an Italian restaurant and not have the lasagna, it's almost criminal if you don't! The lasagna bolognese is traditional in every sense of the word; the bolognese is cooked slowly over a few hours and then built into the lasagna. Each layer was incredible which cheese and sauce combining beautifully together.
Next we enjoyed an amazing bowl of pasta! Again, you just cannot go wrong with Italian food, especially when it's cooked this well! The spaghetti and meatball was more than just your traditional view of what a meatball is. It was a blended combination of veal, beef, and pork to make the ideal meatball. Although I don't eat meat, Jennifer said it was delicious. I know P's dad would fall head over heels to taste a meatball with veal in it!
My favorite part to try in any meal is of course, the martinis! I've recently started enjoying martinis and Tavolo did an amazing job crafting one of those specialty cocktails for us to enjoy. We tried the delicious Fragola, which is a strawberry and basil martini which is created with fresh ingredients, and the Bacio del Limone, made with Tavolo's homemade limoncello. You can instantly tell an amazing martini when it's handcrafted with fresh ingredients and Tavolo does just that. Each taste was incredibly fresh and not to mention, tasty!
We can't forget about the most important part of any good Italian meal, the dessert! Their homemade tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake was phenomenal! I'm a huge fan of both of these desserts and fell in love with them instantly. If I had to pick one, I'd have to say that the cheesecake was my favorite! It was creamy, soft, and had an amazing texture to it. The tiramisu blended the espresso, brandy, and Italian ladyfingers incredibly well. So much so that it literally melted in my mouth.
On second thought, I don't think I could choose a favorite after all!
This Italian eatery must be on your list if you're looking for a restaurant to accommodate a simple date night or a large gathering of family or friends.
