Interview // Borrowed and Blue
Today I've got very exciting news! I was recently contacted by Borrowed & Blue to have an interview with them! I was excited when Helen from Borrowed & Blue, the online resource for planning Charleston weddings, approached me to answer some questions about my style and interests! “Paper Meets Pearl is my new favorite follow in Charleston! Kelly has a real eye for all things gorgeous, especially when it comes to entertaining. I mean, did y’all get a look at that Galentine’s Day post? #treatyoself and check it out! Kelly is also a real life Charleston belle with lots of the kind of local savvy that Borrowed & Blue readers love. I’m so pleased I was able to sit down with Kelly and get the dish on her style, her favorite hangout spots in Charleston, plus her take on wedding trends. Paper Meets Pearl is surely heading to the top of your must-read list.” - Helen, Borrowed & Blue’s Charleston Market Specialist
Here’s my Q&A with Borrowed & Blue:
- For all our friends reading your blog for the first time, give us a taste of your style in six words (or less!).
That's so incredibly hard! I'd say my style is minimalist with pops of color.
- Describe your perfect day in Charleston.
My perfect day is waking up slow with a cup of coffee, then going to a yoga class to great the day in a positive way. Then I'd meet my boyfriend for a delightful brunch at either Gnome Cafe or Three Little Birds Cafe (which have the best vegetarian options in town!) and spend the day walking downtown before going to the beach for a little sun and reading time. It wouldn't be a perfect day in Charleston without having dinner at one of our many fantastic restaurants like 492 King, The Macintosh, or grabbing an after-dinner cocktail at Rarebit, Cocktail Club, or Stars.
- Your eye for design is basically a dream. What websites do you read for inspiration?
I love reading Style Me Pretty Living, The Glitter Guide, Pink Verbena, Apartment Therapy, or Brit.co. Really, anywhere that I find inspiration I'm drawn to it! Magazines and life in Charleston give me inspiration every day.

- How about places around Charleston? What are your favorite design-related stores?
One of my absolute favorites is Ro Sham Beaux. It's absolute perfection! It's known for its lighting and marble decor pieces. I also love to visit Elizabeth Stuart Design and of course, West Elm.
- Your sense of style is completely on point. Where do you shop locally?
Charleston is a great way to shop locally! Style Exchange Couture in Mount Pleasant is one of my favorite places because of all their stunning minimalist pieces. King Street is full of locally owned boutiques that I love to visit like Beckett Boutique, Shoes on King, and Hampden Clothing.
- Allow me a moment of wedding weakness. What wedding trends do you think will be big this year?
One of the top trends I'm seeing is the rise of unique rings including handmade wedding bands, rough stones, and unique diamond shapes. I also like the rise in alternative weddings like courthouse weddings, two piece dresses, and unique colors like pale pink and blue dresses. I love how things are going away from the more conservative and letting couples express themselves on their very special day by making their wedding more unique.

- You certainly know how to plan a party—any tips for budding hosts?
Plan, plan and more planning! Also don't be afraid to ask others for help. We often host "pot-luck" style events where every one will bring a dish or specialty cocktail. This takes so much pressure off of a new host. Also, use items in your home to decorate and don't let Pinterest overwhelm you! Pinterest is an excellent resource for inspiration and how to do things, but don't let it be your own personal bar of achievement. Everyone will have a wonderful time!
- Takes us through the steps of planning a bachelorette party in Charleston. Where would you stay, where would you play, and what would you eat?
Charleston is known for its legendary bachelorette parties! There are many wonderful hotels but two of my favorites are The Restoration and The Spectator Hotel. The Restoration is located on King Street and is walking distance to all the bars, shopping, and restaurants whilst The Spectator is located just a few blocks away from King Street in the heart of the Market District where you'll find the Old Slave Market and other fantastic restaurants. Really, we are surrounded by food here! I honestly cannot choose which restaurant to recommend because we have so many, but for a bachelorette party, I'd highly recommend Stars because of their rooftop view of the city, 492 for the unique foodie, or Poogan's Porch for that classic Southern charm.
We also have many great breweries like Revelry, Holy City, and Westbrook that are known for their beers. If you want to truly experience the many distilleries and breweries here, try a 2-hour tour where they take you to all the different places! The Firefly Distillery is only a short 40-minute drive away so for anyone that loves their famous "sweet tea vodka", you'll not want to miss out on their tours. You can try all their vodkas, bourbons, and moonshine, and then relax in their vineyard and listen to local bands and enjoy some food trucks.

- Speaking of food, what are your three favorite restaurants?
I'm a vegetarian living in a coastal city so I'm limited! But my top favorite places are 492 King, Edmund's Oast, and Butcher and Bee. Butcher and Bee also owns The Daily, a beautiful coffee shop, which is conveniently located next door.
- What sets Charleston apart from other places you’ve lived or visited?
Charleston is so unique because you feel like you're in a big city but also like you're in your hometown, which is something I've never experienced in any other city. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful yet there's so much to do and see that it feels larger than what it is. There's a reason why everyone loves visiting Charleston and it's our hospitality!
